Font pairing worksheet ruined my art block

Was browsing a portfolio roundup last night and saw that 63% of artists who post full watermarks get less engagement than ones with subtle ones. Found it in some analytics blog for illustrators. Why does nobody talk about uploading 4k test files to your portfolio at 2am

Last week I was prepping my digital art showcase for a client review in Portland, and I thought I had everything locked. Then at 1:45am I noticed one of my showcase pieces looked blurry on their screen. Turns out I was uploading a 300dpi PNG but the gallery site was compressing it down to 72dpi and it looked like a potato. I spent 2 hours re-exporting everything at 4k resolution and making a test file with a tiny checkerboard pattern to verify sharpness. Now I always upload a 4k test image first before any big showing. Has anyone else run into gallery compression wrecking their work without realizing it until the last minute?

The local art walk in Sacramento made me rethink how I display my portfolio

I usually just post my best pieces online and call it good. But last month I went to the Second Saturday art walk and saw this one artist who had her process sketches pinned right next to the finished paintings. One critique about my color blocking fixed my whole workflow

Someone on here told me my digital portraits looked flat because I was using only one light source. At first I was annoyed, but I tried adding a rim light on the left side for my next piece and it made a huge difference. Third time trying to get a tablet screen protector right

Went to put a matte screen protector on my Huion tablet this morning and ended up with three giant bubbles right in the middle. Tried lifting it up and smoothing it out with a credit card but just made it worse. After peeling it off and cleaning the screen for the fifth time, finally got it down flat with only two tiny dust specks near the edge. Anyone else have a nightmare time getting these things to stick without trapping air underneath?

Unpopular opinion: posting process shots gets more traction than finished works

I spent 6 hours polishing a portrait to perfection last week and got 12 likes. Then I threw up a messy WIP layer breakdown two days later and it hit 200. People seem way more interested in seeing how something got made than the final result. Am I wrong for thinking this says something weird about how we value art online?

Tried a 64 color palette for my latest piece, ended up stripping it to 6

I was working on a fantasy landscape last month in Procreate and went crazy with a 64 color palette I found online. After 4 hours of layering, the whole thing looked muddy and flat, not vibrant like I wanted. So I deleted everything, picked 6 colors from the original sketch, and rebuilt it in about 90 minutes. The final version actually got more likes than anything I've done in 6 months. Has anyone else had better luck with super limited palettes over big ones?
