Hot take: Showing unfinished WIPs at this week's showcase hurt more than helped
I saw a stat last week that said 70% of digital art buyers skip pieces if the process shots feel too rough, found it in an ArtStation academy blog. But half the comments on my post said studying those messy line art stages actually made them respect the final piece more. Which side do you lean on for showcase posts, polish only or raw progress too?
The stat about buyers skipping rough process shots makes sense but it depends on who's looking. Buyers want to see the finished thing and know it's worth their money, but other artists and beginners are the ones eating up the messy stages. Problem is you can't always tell which crowd is scrolling your showcase feed at any given time. Maybe the move is splitting it up, polished piece first for the buyers, then the rough stages buried further down so the process lovers can dig for them. Feedback you got proves both sides exist, so picking one lane means losing half the room either way.
