Chat with a gallery owner in Austin made me rethink my whole portfolio
She said my digital pieces were technically clean but had zero personality, and that hit different because I spent 8 months polishing technique. Turns out she was more interested in the sketchy experiment I almost deleted than the 40 finished works I was proud of. Anyone else had a stranger's offhand take completely reroute their style?

Wait, did she actually say the sketchy one was better, or just more interesting? I had a similar thing happen at a local art fair, some older painter looked at my careful acrylic landscapes for like two seconds and then grabbed this messy charcoal piece I'd done from a dream and said "this one's got a pulse." It stung at first because I'd put so many hours into the finished stuff, but I started keeping those raw experiments around after that, and now they're honestly the pieces people message me about. Have you gone back to that sketchy experiment yet to see what you'd do with it now?
