Unpopular opinion: Not leaving expansion gaps ruined my last job

Always leave room for wood to move or you'll regret it.

That "you'll regret it" part is no joke. I saw a tabletop someone built without gaps push a cabinet door so hard it snapped the hinge right off. The wood always wins that fight. It's like a really slow, quiet argument you definitely lose.

Wow, wood expansion is basically nature's way of saying "try and stop me, I dare you." Arguing with it sounds like arguing with a wall, but the wall moves.

My old boss swore by a 1/8 inch gap rule, but I saw a maple floor buckle after a humid summer.
