My visit to a German trade school flipped my thinking on apprentice training

I toured a flooring school in Germany last month. Their hands-on approach from day one is way better than our classroom-heavy start. Why don't we push for more practical training like that?

Seriously, their model makes so much sense. We keep kids in desks for years then wonder why no one wants to get their hands dirty. That early practical time builds real skill, not just test answers.

Whoa, hold on a minute! I see what @thea_wood86 is saying, but flipping to all hands-on learning is risky. Kids absolutely need those core years at desks to build up basic math and reading skills. Without that strong base, trying to build a bookshelf just leads to frustration and mistakes. Real skill has to mix the book learning with the hands-on part later on.

Saw my friend's kid completely change after joining a shop class. He went from hating school to building a full bookshelf by himself. That hands-on confidence beats any test score.
