Went to a convention in Chicago last week and the line strategy was a mess

Over 300 people waiting in one single line for badge pickup. No QR codes, no express lanes, nothing. Took me 45 minutes just to get in. I get that they wanted to save money on staff but come on. Has anyone else seen a big event totally drop the ball on basic entry flow?

Oh man, that sounds brutal. My friend went to a tiny comic con in Ohio last year and they had like one guy checking badges at the door. She waited almost an hour in the sun just to get inside while staff stood around doing nothing. They didn't even have a separate line for people who already had their badges printed. Total chaos. By the time she got in she was so annoyed she almost left right away. I feel bad for anyone who has to deal with that kind of disorganization.

Used to think bigger conventions had worse logistics but stories like this change my mind. A tiny con should be easier to organize, not harder, because there are fewer people to manage. How long do you think it takes most cons to fix these kinds of problems once people complain?
