That consultant who said 'just run more Facebook ads' was completely wrong for my event
I was promoting a local jazz festival in Austin and a paid media guy told me to double my ad budget to $3,000, but I spent $200 on a targeted email list of jazz fans instead and sold 150 tickets in two days. Anyone else had a simple low-cost tactic outshine a big spending idea?

Don't you find that small, smart targeting almost always beats big spending on broad stuff?

and honestly that $200 email list probably worked better because jazz fans on Facebook are too busy arguing about Miles Davis vs. John Coltrane to actually click an ad. I ran a small blues night once and spent $50 on flyers at a local record store, ended up with a line out the door while my buddy dropped $500 on Facebook and got three likes from bots. sometimes the old school stuff just hits different when you know your actual crowd.
