Picked a cheap venue over a polished one for a product launch. Regretted it by hour 2.

We had a $5,000 budget for a 50 person launch event last month. One venue was a blank white space with A/V built in for $3,000. The other was a converted warehouse with exposed brick for $1,200 but no tech. I picked the cheap one thinking we'd save money on decor. By the time I rented speakers, projectors, and lighting I was at $2,800 anyway and the sound was still echoey and garbage. Plus the brick walls made the banner we hung look crooked. Has anyone else gone budget on a space and then spent double to make it work?
