My old boss said to never spend more than $2k on a booth giveaway, but I just saw a company give away a car
We ran a tech conference in Austin last year and stuck to that rule, giving out branded power banks. A competitor at the same show gave away a Tesla in a raffle and their lead list was triple ours. Now I'm thinking maybe big ticket items are worth it for the right crowd. Has anyone here actually seen a major giveaway pay off in real sales, or is it just a flashy waste of money?

Remember that time a free iPad winner never even opened our follow-up emails?

Our Denver event gave away a MacBook Pro last fall and we got 400 sign ups. Exactly like @lilykelly said, maybe 10 of those leads ever replied to a call. Felt like we just bought a bunch of junk emails from people who wanted free stuff.

we just bought a bunch of junk emails" basically. The car giveaway probably got them names but not buyers.
