I Spent $800 on a Drone for Aerial Event Photos and It Was a Total Waste

Everyone in event marketing keeps saying you NEED drone footage to make your events look professional. So I finally bought a DJI Mini 3 Pro last spring for our annual charity gala. Cost me $800 plus extra batteries and insurance. First problem, the weather was windy and I barely got any stable shots. Second thing, the venue had strict rules about flying over crowds so I could only use it before guests arrived. Ended up with a few boring establishing shots that nobody cared about. Meanwhile my friend just used her phone on a gimbal and got way more usable content. Has anyone else regretted dumping money into gear that sounded good but didn't actually help?

Oh man, that's rough! A friend of mine dropped a fortune on a fancy gimbal for wedding season and same deal @emery19 he barely used it since most venues had their own gear already.

Well that's why you always check the venue rules before dropping cash on gear.
