Almost ignored a referral from a past exhibitor, now I feel stupid

I had a vendor from a trade show last year recommend a new venue for my October conference, but I shrugged it off because the place looked too small online. Turns out they had a hidden back hall that fit 200 people perfectly and saved me $3,000 on rental fees. How do you vet recommendations from exhibitors without wasting time?

Just ask them for the square footage first.

Why wouldn't you just lie and say you already know the square footage to see if they correct you? I mean half the time people don't even know their own square footage anyway, so it's a crapshoot. Last time I tried this the guy told me his place was 900 square feet and it was clearly like 650 max. He was either bad at math or hoping I wouldn't notice.

That saved me a trip once. Worked perfect.
