Warning: Left a tablet on a Wacom tablet at a Seattle art fair... surface got ruined

Was at the Emerald City Art Fair last month showing some of my digital paintings. Had this nice 24 inch Cintiq on display and some guy leaned his iPad Pro right on the screen while talking to me. Left a permanent ring mark in the matte coating. Tried everything to buff it out, no luck. Paid $350 for a replacement screen overlay. How do you guys protect your display tablets at shows without messing up the touch sensitivity?

Dang that's rough, sorry about your screen. Quick question though - did you have any signage up near your booth asking people not to lean stuff on the display? I always put a little note on the bezel of mine that says "please don't place items on screen" and it's helped a lot at smaller shows where people get chatty and forgetful.

People just don't respect other people's stuff anymore.

Did you catch that article going around a few months back about how people literally treat public spaces worse when they're stressed or overwhelmed? I read it and it kind of clicked for me. With everything going on in the world right now, it feels like everyone is just on edge and not paying attention to what they're doing. That doesn't excuse someone putting a drink on your screen, but it explains why basic courtesy goes out the window. People are tired, distracted, and they just don't stop to think before they act. Honestly, I've started to just plan for the worst and bring extra supplies to every show because I can't count on strangers to be careful.
