Warning: I ruined 4 commissions by not checking my color profile first
I spent like 3 months working on this big fantasy piece with all these deep purples and greens. Looked amazing on my monitor. Then I exported it as a PNG and sent it to the client and she said it looked totally washed out on her end. Turns out I was working in ProPhoto RGB instead of sRGB the whole time. Learned that one the hard way after having to redo 4 commissions. Has anyone else had a color profile disaster or am I just the only one who didn't check that setting?

Three months of backups gone in one afternoon is what it took for me to get serious about a real system. @cora_scott77 probably knows exactly what I'm talking about. I finally broke down and bought a used Synology off Craigslist for like 150 bucks, plus two external drives I rotate offsite. It's not fancy but it saved me when my main drive died last winter. Also started doing a quick 5 minute check every Sunday morning to make sure everything actually backed up properly. Still got a cold sweat thinking about that day I lost everything.
