Unpopular opinion: posting process shots gets more traction than finished works

I spent 6 hours polishing a portrait to perfection last week and got 12 likes. Then I threw up a messy WIP layer breakdown two days later and it hit 200. People seem way more interested in seeing how something got made than the final result. Am I wrong for thinking this says something weird about how we value art online?

Doesn't it bug you how much more people care about the messy middle than the finished thing? I see it all the time in my feed too. People love watching paint dry, basically. They want to feel like they're in on the secret, like they're watching you struggle through it. A perfect final piece feels closed off and done. A WIP shot invites them in, lets them guess what happens next. It's not about valuing art less, it's about valuing the story more.
