Sketching first saved me hours of painting over mistakes

I used to jump straight into colors in Procreate and end up redoing the same face three times. About 6 months ago I started forcing myself to do a full gray scale value sketch first, even if it's rough, and my finished pieces look way more solid. Took a while to get used to because it felt like wasted effort, but now I can't go back. Anyone else find that doing a boring prep pass actually speeds up the fun part?
