Saw a digital artist at a comic con using a light pad for line art

I was at Emerald City Comic Con last month and watched this artist layering her line work over a sketch on a cheap light pad. She said it cut her cleanup time in half compared to doing it all by eye on the tablet. I picked up a small one for $25 at the show and now I use it to trace rough drafts before I go digital. Has anyone else tried combining physical tracing with digital inking?

Nah, I just rough it on paper and ink straight into Procreate. Feels more natural to me.

Wait, hold on, they're only $25 now? I had no idea they'd gotten that cheap. I spent like double that a few years back on a cheap one from an art supply store and thought I was getting a steal. That is wild. I've been doing the same thing for my comic pages, I sketch on paper, lay the light pad over it, and ink with a brush pen before scanning. It saves me so much time not having to fix wobbly lines in Photoshop. Do you find the cheaper ones are bright enough to see through a thicker sketchbook page or does it only work with single sheets?

That $25 table price is good, did the artist mention a specific brand she swears by?
