Question about how long people really look at your digital art

Honestly, I was browsing through my portfolio analytics last week and got hit with a reality check. Turns out the average viewer only spends like 4 seconds on a piece before scrolling past. I found this stat buried in a webinar notes from a site called ArtStation Insights or something similar. Is it even worth spending 20 hours on a single piece if most people barely glance at it? How do you guys balance quality with the fast scroll culture online?

Wait only 4 seconds?? That's brutal honestly... I thought people at least gave it like 10 or 15 seconds before moving on. Kinda makes me wonder why we even bother with all those tiny details nobody will ever notice.

See I disagree @the_piper, those 4 seconds are just a first look not the whole story.
