My entire portfolio site crashed the morning of a big client review in Seattle.
The host had a 14-hour outage right as I was about to show my new character designs, so I had to scramble and pull everything up on my tablet instead.

Tech fails always hit at the worst possible time. I keep a local backup on a hard drive for this exact reason. My old portfolio host went down during a job application once. Now I also save key images as PDFs on my phone. You just can't trust a single online service.

Man, that reminds me of my buddy who lost all his vacation photos when a cloud service just locked him out for "suspicious activity." He had to jump through hoops for weeks. Now he prints a small photo book every year as a physical backup, which is kind of nice actually.
