My attempt at a 'quick' digital portrait turned into a 6-hour monster

I figured I'd try a new brush pack in Procreate last Tuesday, aiming for a simple 1-hour study. Instead, I got obsessed with painting individual eyelashes and ended up with a hyper-detailed face on a weird, half-finished body. The file hit 87 layers and my iPad started lagging. I learned that maybe setting a timer is a good idea before I dive into details. Anyone else get totally sidetracked by one tiny part of a piece?

The 87 layers is the real horror story here. I can picture the exact moment you zoomed in on one eyelash and the rest of the portrait just ceased to exist. Been there, spent three hours on a single perfectly shaded ear while the person's hair stayed as a flat color block. It's like artistic quicksand.
