I finally figured out why my digital art looked flat after a year of frustration
Last month at a local meetup in Austin, a guy named Tom looked at my tablet screen and just said 'your highlights are all the same color temperature.' That was it. He walked me through how he uses blue tones for shadows and warm yellows for light sources in Procreate. I had been using white highlights for everything and wondered why my pieces felt off. Has anyone else had a random stranger point out something obvious that totally changed your workflow?

The color temp thing is honestly the biggest game changer for digital art and nobody talks about it enough. Once you start thinking in warm vs cool instead of light vs dark everything just clicks into place. I had a similar moment when someone pointed out that my shadows were all just darker versions of my base colors instead of shifting towards purple or blue. Took me forever to unlearn that habit but now my stuff actually has depth. The trick is keeping your light source warm and making your shadows cooler or vice versa depending on the mood you want. Procreate has that color balance tool that lets you tweak temps without leaving the brush and its been a lifesaver for me.

Wait, did you try lowering your brush opacity for shadows yet? That fixed my flat pieces overnight.
