Hit 500 followers on my art portfolio and it felt weird
So I hit 500 followers on my DeviantArt page last week after like 2 years of posting. On one hand I'm hyped cause that's way more than I expected when I started. But on the other hand it felt kinda fake cause I only got like 20 comments on my last 5 pieces. Does engagement matter more than the number itself or is a big follower count still a win even if nobody talks to you? I'm torn on which side is right.

That whole follower count thing reminds me of when I had a bunch of people at my garage sale but nobody bought anything. Just standing around looking at my stuff. Numbers feel good until you realize they don't mean much if nobody's actually interacting. Maybe some of those followers are bots or people who just hit follow and forgot they even did it. Engagement tells you who's really paying attention, but 500 is still 500 and that's nothing to sneeze at either.

Garage sale analogy is perfect actually... I had 300 followers once and thought I was doing something, but my posts would get like 2 likes and maybe a comment from my mom. The bots thing is real too, I've seen accounts with thousands of followers but their engagement rate is basically zero. It's like having a party where everyone RSVPs yes but nobody shows up.
