Took me 11 hours to figure out the "chemtrail" video my neighbor showed me was just a plane dumping fuel
So my neighbor Rick comes over about two weeks ago with his phone out, all worked up about a video he saw on some group he's in. He swears it shows a jet spraying something over a neighborhood, criss-crossing back and forth for like 20 minutes, and he wants me to look at it because I'm "the science guy" on the block for some reason. I figured I'd watch it and be done in 10 minutes. Nope. It took me basically a whole Saturday, probably 11 hours total when you count all the pausing and rewinding and googling. The thing that threw me was the plane was turning around and flying the same path over and over, which does look weird if you don't know what you're seeing. I finally pulled up the flight tracking site and matched the tail number in the comments, and it was a tanker that got flagged for an emergency and had to dump fuel before landing. Once I learned that a fuel dump makes that thick white trail and planes do circles to stay over empty area, the whole thing just fell apart. The part that bugs me is Rick still doesn't buy it, he thinks I just "picked the official story." Has anyone here ever actually changed a friend's mind on one of these, or do you just let it go at some point?
