TIL I wasted $200 on a 'dowsing rod' from a paranormal supply site
I got into ghost hunting after watching too many YouTube videos last summer. Bought this fancy brass dowsing rod set from a site called GhostTech for $200, thinking it would help me find 'spiritual energy' in my basement. Turns out the rods just react to static electricity and my own hand movements. I spent three weeks chasing 'spirit signals' that were actually just me bumping into the dryer. The owner of the site even sent me a follow up email trying to sell me a $50 'training course' for using them properly. Has anyone else fallen for this kind of paranormal gear scam or am I the only sucker here?

Did that training course actually exist or was it just a page asking for your credit card info again? I'm curious because these paranormal gear sites always seem to have the same business model - sell you junk then upsell you on "fixing" your own user error. Like, they're counting on you feeling stupid for not getting it to work right so you'll pay for their magical instructions.

Right? That's exactly how it feels with so many of these sites! It's like they know you're already frustrated and out some money, so they just pile on the "premium support." I fell for one once thinking I was getting real training from an experienced investigator, and it was just a bunch of generic tips you could find for free on YouTube. Makes you wonder if the "faulty equipment" was actually just working fine the whole time and they wanted you to pay for the privilege of figuring that out. Solidarity, honestly.
