The shift from bunker talk to bug-out bag talk

I used to spend weekends on forums like this back in 2012, and it was all about underground shelters and stockpiling ammo. Now every thread is about lightweight backpacks and water filters. I saw it change pretty fast around 2016, right when the prepper shows hit cable. People started caring more about mobility than hiding in one spot, which makes sense if you think about how wildfires and floods are hitting everywhere from Austin to Asheville. My uncle still swears by his concrete bunker in Kansas, but I can't carry that on my back. Has anyone else noticed the conversation shifting from long term survival to just getting out of town in 48 hours? What changed it for you, the disasters or the politics?

Man, that timeline matches what I saw too, but for me it was the 2015 floods that did it. I had a full pantry and a generator, but when the water kept rising I realized I could only grab what fit in my truck. Those shows just made it trendy, but the real wakeup call was watching people who stayed put lose everything in a single night.
