Saw something odd at a dam tour in Montana last month

I went on the Fort Peck Dam tour and the guide pointed out these backup spillway gates that are never mentioned in any official paperwork. He said they were built in the 60s but there's no record of who authorized them. Has anyone else noticed unmarked structures at major infrastructure sites?

Oh man, that's wild, right? I saw something similar at the Grand Coulee Dam visitor center a few years back, there was this reinforced concrete block tucked behind a maintenance shed with weird metal hooks sticking out, no sign or anything. The ranger on duty just shrugged when I asked about it, said "that's not on my map either." Funny how these big places have stuff that just exists without a story attached, maybe it's leftover from some old project that got scrapped halfway. I wonder if there's a whole hidden layer of these things across the country that only tour guides know about.
