Noticed my friend refusing to use sleep apps due to data privacy fears.
She believes companies sell our sleep patterns to insurance firms.

Your friend's idea that sleep apps sell data to insurance companies isn't totally accurate. They usually strip out personal details and bundle it with other users' info. That bundled data might go to researchers or for ads, not directly to insurers. But her worry points to the real problem, which is how much data those apps take in the first place.

Totally agree, I uninstalled my sleep tracker last month after reading how much info it collects.

Your friend is right to be careful. Xena394 had the right idea uninstalling that tracker too. It feels like everything collects bits of our lives now, even stuff as simple as when we sleep. Even if the data gets mixed with others, it's still our info being taken. We've all gotten way too used to giving up privacy for convenience. I just don't trust where all that data ends up anymore.
