Appreciation post: I had to pick between two ways to track a story's spread online for a project last year.
The choice was using a basic social media search or paying for a specific tool called Brand24 to dig deeper. I went with the tool because I needed to see the full network, not just surface posts. It cost about $100 for a single month. I found that one story about a 'lost city' started from just two accounts in Phoenix before it blew up. Seeing the actual numbers made the debate way more clear for my report. Has anyone else found a good method for mapping how these things spread without spending a ton?

Patience with free tools can work for small projects, but time has a cost too. Waiting for data to trickle in isn't an option when you have a tight deadline for a report. The paid tool's value was showing the exact starting point clearly, which free searches often miss. That specific proof made the argument in the report much stronger. For a one-time project, that hundred dollars bought a level of certainty free methods couldn't match.

Wow, $100 seems steep. I mean, you can usually get the same idea with free tools if you're just patient with it.
