Am I the only one who copied code by hand out of a library book in 2019?
Back in 2019 I was at the Sacramento public library retyping Python examples from a book into Notepad because I didn't have wifi at my apartment. I got a syntax error on line 3 for three days straight, all because I typed a curly quote instead of a straight one and had no clue they were different. Now I just paste the error into a search bar and someone on Stack Overflow has already answered it in 2014 with 800 upvotes. Honestly half the stuff I lost sleep over is one 20 second copy paste away now. Do you still type out examples by hand to learn them, or is that just wasted time at this point?
Typing it out by hand is still the best way to actually learn it though. Copy pasting from Stack Overflow means you never build the muscle memory for syntax or catch the little stuff like your curly quote problem. Yeah it saves time, but you skip the part where your brain actually holds onto anything.
