Tried to get my apartment building to switch to LED bulbs in the common areas and it turned into a whole thing.

My friend Sarah tried that at her condo in Tampa last year. She printed out charts showing how much they'd save on the electric bill, even talked to the property manager directly. It still took like six months and three board meetings before they finally swapped the old hallway lights. People get weirdly attached to those dim yellow bulbs.

Ugh, that is so real. I had the same fight in my old building over putting timers on the laundry room lights. You'd think saving money would be the easiest sell ever, but nope.

I get it, but dim yellow bulbs have a vibe timers can't replace.

The real issue nobody talks about is that those dim yellow bulbs are actually cheaper to run than you'd think because they last forever. LED replacements burn out faster than people expect, especially in cheap fixtures that get left on 24/7. So the savings spreadsheet @jana_fox50's friend made might have looked good on paper but the board probably crunched the numbers and realized the payoff takes way longer than anyone wants to admit. Plus most property managers get a kickback from whoever supplies the bulbs, so switching brands cuts into their side deal. The whole fight is never really about the light itself, it's about whose pocket gets hit first.
