After they finished the lanes last week, my neighbor told me she's already biking her kids to school instead of driving.

Isn't it crazy how often that's true? I see it all the time, like @thomas_palmer said, people just needed the safe option to make a change. It's the same with the crosswalk they finally put in by my kid's school, or even just putting a handrail on some old stairs. A lot of the time, the big thing holding people back isn't a lack of wanting to do it, it's a simple, fixable block in the way. Once you clear that one block, everything else just falls into place and people start doing the thing they already wanted to do.
