The week my town's creek flooded after a big storm
We got 8 inches of rain in two days here in Springfield, and the usual creek behind my house turned into a river. It washed out a whole section of the bike path and covered the park benches. Seeing that really hit home how extreme weather is getting. Has your area dealt with bad flooding lately?

My basement in Mill Creek turned into a wading pool last spring, about six inches deep. I was out there with a shop vac for two days straight, felt like a real cartoon character. It finally convinced me to actually buy flood insurance, so I guess the universe had to teach me a lesson the hard way.

Did you check if your sump pump is on a battery backup? After our last big flood, I learned the hard way that the power always goes out right when you need it most. Get some sandbags ready now, even if the water hasn't reached your place yet. It's way easier to stack them on dry ground than to try and stop water that's already coming in.
