Ran into an old neighbor at the recycling center who changed my mind about composting

Last Saturday at the county recycling drop-off near my house, a woman named Carol saw me throwing out a bag of banana peels and eggshells. She gently told me I was tossing away free soil and showed me her bucket system right there in her trunk. Has anyone else had a stranger stop you mid-trash and completely shift how you handle kitchen waste?
