Question about my new heat pump water heater

I dropped about $1500 on a heat pump water heater last fall, thinking it was just a green tax. My electric bill dropped by almost $40 a month, so it's basically paying for itself. Has anyone else seen savings that fast, or did I just get lucky?

Honestly depends on your old water heater too. If it was a total energy hog, the savings would be way more obvious right away.

Angela_grant is totally right about the old heater being a factor. My last one was a rusty tank from like 2002, and it sounded like a jet engine kicking on. The gas bill dropped noticeably the first month after I swapped it for a new one. You won't see that kind of change if your old one was already fairly new and efficient. It's all about what you're upgrading from.

Nice, right? Mine was the same, old electric one was a total beast. @wells.anna gets it, the noise alone was worth the swap. My bill dropped like a rock too.
