Neighbor's note about my solar panels made me rethink everything

Last Tuesday I had a guy from two streets over knock on my door. He pointed at my rooftop array and said, "You know those are dead weight after 4 PM, right?" I was annoyed at first. Then I checked my monitoring app, he was right. My panels sit at 90% angle facing south, but the big oak in my backyard kills the evening sun. He suggested I shift my biggest energy uses to midday instead of after work. I moved my laundry and dishwasher cycles to noon. My grid draw dropped 30%, my bill went down $22 last month. Has anyone else gotten feedback that changed their whole setup? What did you adjust?
