I saw a kid pick up a plastic bottle at the park and it hit me

I was at Riverside Park last weekend, just sitting on a bench. A little boy, maybe 5, ran past a bottle someone left, stopped, and put it right in the recycling bin without anyone telling him to. It made me realize my own habits were worse than a kid's. I've been way too lazy about sorting my own trash at home. How do you make recycling a no-brainer habit?

Honestly, sometimes I wonder if home recycling even matters that much. The whole system seems pretty broken, and a lot of it just ends up in a landfill anyway. It feels like a tiny drop in a huge bucket compared to what big companies waste. That kid did a nice thing, but beating yourself up over a plastic bottle at home seems like a lot of pressure. Maybe just do what you can without stressing over it.

Right, because the only thing better than a broken system is a lecture from a nine-year-old about my soda bottle. (My recycling bin is basically a fancy trash can that makes me feel less guilty, let's be real.)

That kid putting you to shame is a real wake-up call, huh.
