The week my U-Haul got stuck on a Chicago alley and 3 strangers saved my move
So I moved from Indy to Chicago two weeks ago, and the whole thing almost fell apart on day one. My buddy and I rented a 15 foot U-Haul, packed everything we owned, and drove up on a Saturday thinking we had plenty of time before the lease office closed at 5pm. We get to my new place in Lakeview around 2, and the alley behind the building is way tighter than it looked on Google Maps. I tried to squeeze the truck past a dumpster and got wedged between a brick wall and a parked Civic, with maybe 4 inches of clearance on each side. We sat there for 20 minutes panicking, and then a guy walking his dog just said "hey, want me to spot you?" He waved me back inch by inch while two other neighbors came out to help guide the mirrors. Took us 15 minutes to get unstuck, and one of them even helped us carry the couch up to the third floor walkup. I still owe those people a case of beer. Anyone else have a first day in a new city that almost went sideways like that?
