Stop signing a 12-month lease in Lincoln Park before checking the summer noise

I moved here 3 months ago and didn't realize how loud the garbage trucks and bar crowds get starting June - my third floor walkup shakes at 4am every Friday. If you're coming from a quiet suburb, ask the landlord when the lease starts if they'll let you test a Saturday night first.

Did you try earplugs or a white noise machine yet? I've watched people move out of places like this by August 'cause they just couldn't take it. Might be worth talking to the landlord about a month-to-month option if you're still within your first few months.

Yeah honestly @anderson.david makes a good point about the month-to-month thing. I'd push hard for that if you're still early in the lease because landlords know summer noise is a problem in that area, they just don't advertise it. Earplugs can help but when the whole building shakes from trucks at 4am, thats a different level of annoying. I've had friends who lived near there and said the bar crowd shouting at 2am is worse than the garbage trucks honestly. Maybe see if the landlord will let you switch to a shorter lease with a small rent bump, it could save you from hating your life by August.
