Spent my first Chicago winter learning the hard way about parking spots
Moved into a place in Logan Square back in November and didn't realize the alley parking spot came with a "shoveling clause" in the lease. First big snow, my neighbor's car got stuck behind mine because I didn't clear the path fast enough. Now I keep a snow shovel in my trunk and set a phone alarm for 6am whenever the forecast calls for more than 3 inches. Anyone else run into unexpected rules with their new Chicago apartment?

That's the thing about Chicago - you learn quick that alley spots are more responsibility than convenience. Setting that 6am alarm is smart, beats having to dig out a neighbor while they watch from their window. Most people catch on after the first bad winter, the ones who don't usually move back to a warm climate.

Honestly this sounds fair to me. You signed the lease, you know the rule, just shovel earlier. What's so hard about being a decent neighbor in Chicago winter?

Feel you on this one, I've been there before. It's not always easy waking up early to shovel but it beats the drama and the cold shoulders from neighbors who are counting on you. A little effort goes a long way in keeping peace on the block.
