Showerthought: the mover who called my box labeling "cute" saved me a meltdown in Logan Square
Moving into a third floor walkup on Milwaukee Ave last month, I had every box labeled with a Sharpie like "kitchen stuff" and "bathroom things." The lead mover, a guy named Ray, looked at my handiwork and just shook his head. He said, "Man, nobody can read your handwriting at 7am on a rainy Tuesday, use a number and write the room on all four sides." I laughed it off at first but then he showed me his system, big bold numbers on the top and sides so no matter which way a box lands, you know where it goes. We had 47 boxes and honestly not one of them ended up in the wrong room. I spent the whole day thinking about how a random mover with 20 years on the job had a better system than anything I found online. Now I'm helping my cousin pack for her spot in Pilsen and she thinks I'm nuts for the number thing. Anyone else pick up a packing trick from a pro that sounds dumb until you try it?
