Rented in Lincoln Park before buying in Humboldt Park - night and day difference

After 18 months renting near Armitage and Clark, I finally bought a place by Humboldt Boulevard. The rent was $1,800 for a 600 square foot one-bedroom, but my mortgage in Humboldt Park is $1,400 for a two-flat with a yard. Anyone else find the neighborhoods totally different once you actually live in them?

Holy crap, $1,800 for 600 square feet? That's insane. I can't believe you got a whole two-flat with a yard for less than that, Lincoln Park is just robbery sometimes. I rented near there for a year and it felt like living in a museum, everything was too nice and you couldn't do anything without paying extra.

Did you ever have that landlord who acted like you were lucky to live there even though the appliances were from the 90s? I swear, some of those fancy neighborhoods just charge more for the privilege of not feeling like you can put a poster up without asking permission.

Lincoln Park is beautiful but you're paying for the name, not the space. @brown.gavin is spot on about it feeling like a museum, everything felt curated and I couldn't just hang out with my friends without spending a ton. Humboldt Park gives you actual room to live and breathe, way better trade off if you ask me.
