Paid $220 for a moving company in Lakeview and they scratched my dresser, worth it or no?
I moved from Lakeview to Pilsen last month and dropped $220 on movers instead of begging friends with a truck. They scratched my dresser but showed up on time and I didn't have to buy anyone pizza. One buddy says I wasted money and should have rented a U-Haul for $60. What do you all think, is hiring movers always worth it or did I just get lucky with a decent crew?
The "didn't have to buy anyone pizza" part is the real win here. I read somewhere that most people who rope friends into moving end up spending way more on food and drinks than they would have on actual movers. Plus you're not the one who has to figure out how to get a couch through a narrow Pilsen stairwell while your buddy complains. A scratch on a dresser sucks but that's what wood markers are for. $220 for a whole move with no drama is a steal, your U-Haul friend is doing math that ignores the pizza, the beer, and the favors you now owe forever.
