Landlord in Rogers Park promised to fix the heat before my move in, guess what happened
I showed up with the U-Haul on a 12 degree morning two weeks ago and the radiators were stone cold, so I called him and he said he'd send someone "eventually." I ended up buying two space heaters at the Home Depot on Touhy and told him I'm withholding January rent until it's fixed. Has anyone actually gotten a landlord to follow through on this stuff, or should I just start looking for a new place now?
Did you know Home Depot on Touhy is where every Chicago tenant's bad day goes to get worse? I bought two space heaters there back in 2019 when my old place in Edgewater had the same problem, and the guy in line behind me was buying a space heater too. We just looked at each other like two guys at a funeral. My landlord dragged his feet for six weeks and then tried to charge me for "extra electric use" when I moved out. So yeah, withholding rent got him moving a little, but it also got me on his bad side real fast.
