I finally realized I was reading apartment floor plans wrong for years
Was looking at a place in Wicker Park last weekend and the agent kept talking about the layout. I'm standing there thinking the living room is gonna be huge based on the drawing. Turns out I never paid attention to the 'scale' notation in the corner. That 20x15 room I thought I was getting was actually 13x10 once I did the math. Felt like an idiot. Anyone else make this mistake when apartment hunting here?

Used to look at floor plans and think I had a good eye for space. Never bothered with the scale or dimensions because I figured I could just picture it. Then I rented a place in Logan Square where the drawing made the bedroom look normal sized, but the actual room barely fit a full bed and a dresser. Learned my lesson quick. Now I multiply the numbers out before I even bother touring.

Wicker Park is brutal for that. Looked at a place off Milwaukee once. The floor plan showed a "spacious loft" but the scale tricked me bad. Ended up being a glorified hallway with a stove. Now I always check the square footage number before I even look at the drawing. Saves a lot of disappointment.
