Hit 3 years in Chicago and finally learned my lesson about parking
Everyone told me you need a garage spot when you move here, but I insisted on street parking to save $200 a month. After 3 winters of digging my car out at 5am and replacing 2 side mirrors from hit-and-runs, I finally crunched the numbers. Turns out the repair costs and my lost time added up to way more than a garage would have cost me. I just signed a lease for a spot in Logan Square for $175 a month. Anyone else make this mistake when they first moved?

Street parking in Chicago is like paying for a gym membership you NEVER use. You think you're saving cash but the REAL cost is hidden. Three winters of digging out at 5am sounds like a nightmare. Losing two side mirrors plus your time and sanity easily adds up. You made the SMART move getting that Logan Square spot. Some lessons you just gotta learn the hard way.

$175 in Logan Square seems steep to me, honestly. @troy832 makes it sound like a life or death situation with the street parking thing but I've been fine for two years just moving my car once a week for street cleaning. Yeah digging out sucks sometimes but you can just buy a good snow brush and keep a shovel in your trunk. Two side mirrors over 3 years is like what, $400 total? Thats basically the same as your garage for that whole time. I just dont see the math adding up that dramatically unless you live in a really bad area for break-ins or something.
