Vent: My old boss gave me 7 years of bad review advice
He kept saying highlight your wins in every review, so I did that for 6 years and got 3% raises. New manager at a different firm in Austin told me to focus on fixing one broken process instead, got promoted in 8 months. Has anyone else had to unlearn advice from a previous job that just stopped working?

Honestly, every review I've ever seen says "highlight wins" but that's just the easy thing to write on the form. The real trick is finding one thing that's broken and telling your boss, "I fixed this, here's the before and after." Takes about 3 months of effort but it shows you can actually solve problems, not just talk about them.
