I was 18 and dead set on going to a 4 year college like everyone else. My uncle pulled me aside at a family BBQ and said the trades would always be needed and college debt would bury me. I'm a freelance web guy and last Thursday my client in Austin had their Black Friday in July sale go live. Their site was doing fine for like 20 minutes and then it just died. Turns out they spent all their budget on fancy graphics and zero on server capacity. I had to scramble and spin up a bigger server through my own hosting account at 2 AM just to get them back online. I started a new gig about 2 months ago and I swear I used to think I had this whole onboarding thing down. Back at my old place in Austin, I just showed up, got a laptop, and was doing real work by day 3. This new company? Paperwork took a full week. Read a job posting that asked for '10 years of React experience' and React hasn't even been out that long

Came across a listing on LinkedIn yesterday for a senior dev role. They wanted someone with 10 years of experience in React. React came out around 2013 so thats only like 11 years max. And they wanted it for a front end job paying $80k in Austin. Felt like they just copy pasted some generic requirements without even thinking. Has anyone else run into job posts with totally fake experience demands like that?

I've been looking for a new job for like 4 months now and kept getting ghosted after applying online. My buddy in sales told me to stop just sending my resume and instead find the hiring manager on LinkedIn and ask them a specific question about their work. I tried it last week with a company in Austin and asked the guy about a project they had listed on their website. He replied in like 2 hours and we had a call the next day. I don't know if it was timing or what but I think showing you actually looked at what they do makes a difference. Has anyone else tried something like this and had it work for them?
