Saw a stat that 70% of people leave a job because of their manager, not the pay. Is that real or just an excuse?

I read that in a Harvard Business Review piece last week, and it blew my mind since I've quit two jobs for money reasons. But now I'm wondering if I just didn't want to admit my bosses were the real problem. Anyone else ever left a good-paying gig because of a bad boss, or is this stat just workplace survivor bias?

Money is a cleaner excuse than admitting a bad boss situation, so people lean on it hard. Your mileage may vary, but plenty of folks stay in toxic jobs for years if the check clears and benefits are solid. The 70% stat probably lumps in "manager issues" with any workplace frustration to make a nicer headline.

Right because who needs a boss that respects them when the 401k match is decent lol. Nothing says "I'm thriving" like a steady paycheck and a sinking feeling in your gut every Sunday night. At this point just call it a hazard pay bonus and be honest about it.
