PSA: That $500 'LinkedIn Profile Makeover' I bought was a total scam

I was stuck in a job hunt for months, so I paid a guy $500 to rewrite my LinkedIn profile and make it 'stand out'. He promised more recruiter views and better job leads. What I got was a bunch of fancy words that didn't sound like me at all, and he even added skills I don't have. My profile looked fake and I actually got fewer messages after the change. I had to spend a whole weekend fixing it back to something real. It felt like I paid to make my job search harder. Has anyone found a legit and cheap way to get a good profile review?

My cousin paid for a similar service last year and it actually worked for her. She got a profile that was way more professional and started getting real interviews within a month. The key was finding someone with good reviews who did a video call first to understand her actual experience. A bad service doesn't mean they're all scams, you just have to be careful who you pick. I'd look for freelancers who show real before and after examples.

Wait, didn't I see a whole thread about this on reddit? People were saying the video call thing is a good filter, but you gotta ask the right questions. Like, make them explain their process.

Seriously? So we're trusting random freelancers now? That video call could just be a sales pitch.
