My boss told me I was overthinking my career moves and she was right

I was talking to my old manager from the dental office, and she said I've been treating every job decision like a life or death choice. She told me 'just pick the one that gets you 80 percent of what you want and move on'. Now I'm actually applying to a place in Austin that pays $5 more an hour, has everything I need but not a perfect schedule, and I feel okay about it. Has anyone else had a manager change how you look at job hunting with just one sentence?

Skip the perfect schedule part, what does the new place actually get WRONG that you had to settle for?

Oh man, that's actually really solid advice. I gotta say though, 80 percent is generous honestly. Most people never find a job that checks even half of their boxes, so if you're getting close to that you're doing way better than most. The whole "perfect schedule" thing is such a trap too, because a job that fits your life 100% on paper could still suck for a million other reasons. Glad your manager snapped you out of that spiral, for real.

Yeah, 80% is basically winning the lottery in this job market...
