I thought the 'just ask for a raise' advice was garbage until my boss said yes in 4 minutes
I always rolled my eyes at people saying you should just walk in and ask for more money, because I figured my boss would laugh at me. But after 2 years at $16 an hour pouring drinks at a spot off 6th Street, I finally wrote down three things I actually do that nobody else covers on my shift. I walked into his office on a slow Tuesday at 3pm, said my number was $19, and he just nodded and said 'yeah, that's fair, I should have done that already.' It took 4 minutes total and I sat in my car afterward kind of mad I waited so long. Has anyone here actually been turned down flat, and what did you say next?
